Generations of Devoted Worship Since Great-Grandfather's Era
A living tradition of devotion, passed down through generations
Our family's sacred journey began in Pabna, Bangladesh, before the partition of Bengal. Our great-grandfather carried the worship of Maa Jagadhatri across borders, establishing this beloved mandir in Garia, Kolkata.
The deity is known to be exceptionally active, blessing devotees with tangible grace.
Though a home temple, we warmly welcome community members for darshan and participation in puja rituals. Our neighbors attest to the divine presence that emanates from this sacred space.
Open for: Annual Jagadhatri Puja, special occasions, and by appointment
Carrying forward the sacred flame into tomorrow
As our great-grandfather carried the divine flame from Pabna to Garia, and our previous generations sustained it through changing times, we, the young Bhattacharyas, now stand as the torchbearers of this sacred tradition, weaving heritage and innovation to create a beacon for future generations.
"We are not merely preserving the past. We are weaving it into the future. Through this mandir, we create bonds that transcend distance and time, uniting our family in shared reverence. May the lineage who come after us find strength in this living tradition."

Understanding the divine mother who sustains existence
Jagat-Dhatri means "Holder of the World" - the goddess who prevents cosmic collapse through her divine will.
She manifests as the calm, sustaining aspect of Durga, seated on a lion that stands upon an elephant (Karindrasura), symbolizing control over the wild, restless mind.
Maa Jagadhatri grants:
Boli of chalkumro
Boli (sacrifice) is not mere ritual. It is the symbolic annihilation of the inflated ego and negative tendencies that obstruct divine grace.
For generations, our family performed goat sacrifice as per tantric traditions during Ashtami and Navami.
Recognizing changing consciousness and ahimsa (non-violence), we shifted to white gourd (chalkumro) sacrifice, maintaining symbolism while honoring all life.
The sacrifice represents cutting through the inflated ego—not ego itself, which fuels righteous action, but the false pride and negativity that separates us from the divine.
Philosophical Note: Ego (Ahang) is necessary for existence and dharmic action. What we sacrifice is ahamkara, the inflated sense of "I am the doer" that blinds us to the supreme Shakti behind all power. As Jagadhatri taught the gods: your power is borrowed, not owned. This humility is what we ritually enact through boli.
